WHO AM I?
WHO AM I?
I am an independent perfumery practitioner from Vietnam. My journey in perfumery began with personal research and exploration, and has since grown through continuous experimentation and hands-on creation. My work is driven by a fascination with scent, plants, natural materials, and the expressive possibilities of perfumery.
BEYOND PERFUMERY
My professional background extends beyond fragrance creation. I work in the development and commercialization of value-added products derived from Vietnamese agricultural resources, including botanical essential oils and other plant-based applications. Through this work, I have built relationships across international cosmetics markets and gained first-hand experience in how Asian ingredients and products are developed, positioned, and valued beyond their places of origin.
ASIAN ROOTS
My work with Vietnamese plants and indigenous resources has led me to explore the botanical heritage of Vietnam and the wider Asia-Pacific region. I am interested in materials that carry a sense of place, and in how Asian botanical knowledge, culture, and craftsmanship can inspire contemporary olfactory creation.
For me, culture is not only something to preserve, but a living resource for creation, exchange, and connection.
Fragrances, experiments and olfactory studies.
FRAGRANCES & EXPERIMENTS
SOMA FRACTURE
EXPERIMENTAL FRAGRANCE · FIRST RELEASED 2026
SOMA FRACTURE explores the tension between the Age of Machines and the Human Being - between the artificial and the organic, the precise and the instinctive. The fragrance is deliberately divided into two parts: a cold, metallic spray representing the machine world, and a warm gel fragrance carrying rice, cumin, salted butter, musk, and woods - traces of the body, nourishment, labour, and life. The experience begins with a fracture. The capsule must be broken by hand, releasing the hidden fragrance onto the skin. Cold metal meets warm rice. Aldehydes meet skin. The artificial meets the traces of human labour. As the two sides merge, the work returns to the body - to heat, movement, sensation, and thought.
SOMA FRACTURE is my first experimental fragrance. With this work, I wanted to explore a new way of presenting scent - not only through smell, but through an entirely different experience of using and experiencing a fragrance.
It was first presented in 2026 as a personal project created for OLFACTORY ODYSSEY IV – Scent × Future, an exhibition exploring the intersection of fragrance and olfactory art.
THORN OF ENVY
FRAGRANCE • COMPLETED • EXPECTED RELEASE: LATE 2027
Thorn of Envy is my latest creation, built upon the imagery and atmosphere of a life surrounded by luxury, beauty, and cultivated appearances. Beneath that polished surface lies a more complicated inner world - guardedness, social anxiety, the desire to belong, and, like any human being, the quiet envy that arises when we measure ourselves against others.
For me, the fragrance became a way of confronting these thoughts rather than concealing them. It is an exploration of vanity in its most human form: the desire to be admired, to possess beauty, and to become someone worthy of being envied. Through fragrance, these conflicting emotions are translated into something tangible - beautiful, polished, yet carrying a subtle sense of tension beneath the surface.
Thorn of Envy also marks a turning point in my approach to composition. Built upon familiar olfactory materials and the atmosphere of an extravagant life, it moves toward a more experimental way of constructing fragrance, where personal psychology and sensory expression begin to overlap. It is the beginning of a new chapter in my practice - one in which fragrance becomes a language for confronting and revealing the inner self.
ASIAN HERBAL TEA <DOUCÉ PERFUME>
FRAGRANCE • COMPLETED • RELEASED: 2025
Asian Herbal Tea holds a special place in my journey as a perfumer for two reasons.
First, it was born from The Sense of the Local: Collective Scents — the first time my work reached an international audience. It was never a competition to determine a winner, but a meaningful exchange of cultures, brought together by a larger purpose: to nurture and celebrate Asian identity through scent. For me, this experience resonated deeply with both my professional direction and my aspiration to contribute to the cultural and creative landscape of perfumery.
Second, Asian Herbal Tea is perhaps the work most different from everything else I have created — not in its technique, but in its soul. I am, by nature, a rather vain and wandering person. My life and imagination often drift through dreams, beauty, and intensely personal worlds, and that sensibility naturally finds its way into my creations. Asian Herbal Tea was an attempt to do the opposite. Instead of looking inward, I returned to something quieter and more fundamental: the deepest affections I carry, the most truthful memories, the simplest scenes of everyday life, and perhaps the most universal part of being human — our connection to family.
To me, Asian Herbal Tea is more than a fragrance. It was an opportunity to place my work before the world, to give a voice to an aspiration, and to look back into my own soul through its clearest and most innocent lens.
FLEUR DE BRUME <DOUCÉ PERFUME>
FRAGRANCE • COMPLETED • EXPECTED RELEASE: LATE 2026
Fleur de Brume is inspired by the cinematic world of Wong Kar-wai and In the Mood for Love — not a flower blooming beneath the sun, but the fleeting silhouette of an orchid hidden within the cinematic shadows of Hong Kong, 1962: proud, restrained, and quietly intoxicated by longing.
"She never looked back. But the night remembered everything."
Bergamot and Litsea Cubeba pass like a brief touch on a narrow staircase, a moment of hesitation before disappearing into the night. Orchid, Jasmine Sambac, and Ylang-Ylang unfold quietly behind the mist, evoking a woman whose beauty is tempered by restraint, keeping her love hidden behind a half-smile.
As the night deepens, cigarette smoke drifts through damp patchouli and solemn sandalwood. Ambroxan holds onto the last trace, like a secret left in the darkness - a love that never found its words, yet lingered long enough to become a lifetime of memory.
VAN HOA
EXPERIMENT • IN THE STUDIO
Van Hoa means a multitude of flowers — a world where countless flowers bloom, overlap, and disappear into one another. It is a classical floral creation, born from a deeply personal place in my memory: my own remembrance of flowers. In that memory, flowers exist in their purest, most sincere, and most profound form.
Layers upon layers of countless flowers unfold and dissolve into one another. Just as you begin to recognize the delicate presence of ylang-ylang, it disappears into another bloom. A rose emerges, only to become indistinguishable from orange blossom. Then another flower appears, and another — fleeting, overlapping, and impossible to hold onto.
There is no single flower at the center of Van Hoa. There are only flowers appearing and disappearing, one after another. Whatever flower you imagine, it seems to find its way into the fragrance.
CODE 95
EXPERIMENT • IN THE STUDIO
CODE 95 is a fine fragrance currently in development, selected from a personal archive of around one hundred compositions exploring different olfactive directions and emotional states at particular moments in time.
Its formula brings together more than fifty materials to recreate a singular expression of rose - a rose at the height of its freshness and fragrance, intertwined with the cool, spicy air of a dim wine cellar. The contrast is deliberate: radiant petals against damp darkness, floral freshness against something warmer, more shadowed and forbidden.
CODE 95 is unrestrained, flirtatious, and dangerous. It carries the feeling of a flower that knows exactly how beautiful it is, lingering in the air with a provocative kind of vanity. The composition is still evolving through user feedback and refinement, but its character is already clear: sensual without restraint, seductive without innocence, and never entirely safe.
OLFACTIVE STUDIES / FRAGMENTS
A collection of olfactive fragments, gathered from passing thoughts, materials, sensations, and experiments.
Some may become fragrances. Some may remain only as fleeting moments.
DARK ORCHID
An orchid imagined after dark - velvety, humid, and slightly mysterious.
Orchid · Spice · Woods
LEATHER IRIS
Iris buried beneath leather, dry woods, and smoke. Oris butter becomes the quiet passage inward, leading the flower from its dry, powdery surface into something darker, sweeter, and softly creamy.
Iris · Leather · Dry Woods · Smoke
BLACK YLANG YLANG
Ylang-ylang is naturally powerful and intense. Learning to restrain its force revealed a darker side of the flower I had never encountered before - a small but meaningful breakthrough in my practice. A study in floral excess and nocturnal sensuality.
Ylang - Ylang · Woods · Spice
MUTED TUBEROSE
Tuberose is, to me, an intense flower - sensual, radiant, and almost burning in its presence. Rather than restraining it, I wanted to veil it beneath a translucent layer of woods and animalic musk, allowing its heat and seduction to remain visible beneath the surface.
Tuberose · Woods · Animalic Musk
ORCHID • HOLIC
I wanted to capture a clean and beautiful expression of wild orchid - powdery, softly musky, and delicate. A floral accord designed to feel natural, elegant, and easy to wear.
Orchid · Powder · Musk
FIG • MAH
Not the lush sweetness of a ripe fig, but the quieter character I remember from Vietnamese figs - green, slightly astringent, delicate, and faintly bitter. A study of fig through memory rather than convention.
Vietnamese Fig · Green · Soft Bitter
TRA CHANH
A simple pleasure, captured in its clearest form: cool tea, bright lemon, and a clean, refreshing lift. Light, crisp, and quietly invigorating - like a glass of iced lemon tea on a hot afternoon.
Tea · Citrus · Fresh Green
TURMEROSE
I have always been fascinated by the many facets of rose. Here, I wanted to bring its naturally spicy character to the forefront, pushing it beyond its familiar floral expression into something warmer, bolder, and more feverish.
Rose · Spice · Turmeric
MILKY PEAR
I started with a clean, fresh pear, then deliberately pushed it too far — sweeter, creamier, heavier, and almost sticky. I like the moment when a familiar fresh fruit stops being innocent and becomes excessive.
Pear · Cream · Fruity
TO • made • TAL
I am not trying to make tomato leaf. I want the tomato itself — fully ripe, soft, wet, almost collapsing, the kind you would crush into a pot of sauce. So far, I have been using ripe peach with a little pineapple to get there. It is still unfinished, and I am still trying to figure out the damn tomato.
Ripe Tomato
VITAMIN C
This is my attempt at making a glass of citrus juice in fragrance. Lemon, grapefruit, mandarin - basically all the sour, juicy things thrown together. Extremely fresh, slightly cooling, and aggressively refreshing. I’m pretty sure you won’t be able to resist the urge to take a sip.
Everythings about citrus
DRUNK ON GRAPES
This one is a tribute to a batch of homemade grape wine I once made far too sweet. Grape candy, wine, and an almost ridiculous amount of sweetness - almost like a drunken grape jam. It is excessive, sticky, boozy, and shamelessly seductive. I’m pretty sure it will make you want to taste it, even though you already know you’ll probably make a face afterwards.
Grape Candy · Wine · Jammy
SON PHAN
A nostalgic portrait of old-fashioned lipstick and powder - waxy, soft, floral, and slightly sweet. A study of the familiar cosmetic scent of another time, delicate yet unmistakably intimate.
Lipstick · Powder · Violet · Wax
MOON • TEA
A deep black tea steeped with the cool, green sweetness of pandan. Quiet and comforting, like drinking tea beneath the moon when the world has finally gone still.
Black Tea · Pandan · Soft Woody
WICKED CHILLIES
Chillies in their most unruly form - hot, piercing, and cool at once, exploding through a dry woody darkness. A study of heat pushed almost to its limit.
Chilli · Spice · Woods · Dry Amber
NECTAROUS
Honey, vanilla, creamy sandalwood, and tobacco melt into an intensely sweet, decadent accord. Old-fashioned in spirit yet shamelessly indulgent, it is warm, polished, and almost excessive in its sweetness.
Vanilla · Sandalwood · Tobacco
WARM BUTTER
I basically threw every sweet thing I could think of into a fly trap, then poured in butter, rich milk, and almond until it turned into this unapologetically buttery pastry accord. It is ridiculously rich, creamy, and sweet. Honestly, I think it would be fantastic in a body wash.
Butter · Milk · Almond
GUILTY PLEASURE
Sweet rose wine and cherry - that is basically the whole idea. Fruity, boozy, sweet, and shamelessly seductive. The kind of drink that makes you feel a little more beautiful after a few sips.
Cherry · Sweet Wine · Rose
COCOA CRÊME
I spent 5 months trying to build a chocolate accord and finally stopped here. It smells like a chocolate ice cream bar with crushed peanuts - creamy, nutty, chocolaty, and surprisingly well balanced. Sometimes I think this one doesn’t need to be complicated anymore.
Chocolate · Peanut · Cocoa
NANG THOM CHO DAO
This is a gift I made for myself — an idea that has stayed with me since the very beginning of my journey in perfumery. I wanted to create the scent of rice, starting from the grain itself. Nang Thom Cho Dao, named after a once-renowned Vietnamese rice variety, became the starting point for that exploration. The fragrance is built around a rice tincture that I milled myself and left to macerate for 10 months.
Rice ·· Grain · Soft Floral
2013 - THE FIRST SCENT
At 17, I bought my first perfume: Flower by Kenzo. I still remember feeling that I was perhaps not quite worthy of such a beautiful scent. Somehow, it always felt a little beyond me.
2018 - FROM FARM TO FORMULATION
I began working with a company developing and exporting coconut biocellulose masks. This became the beginning of my journey with agricultural resources — from raw materials to value-added products.
2019 - AROMATIC APPLICATIONS
I studied the application of essential oils in therapeutic massage, beginning to understand fragrance materials not only through their smell, but also through their relationship with the body.
2020 - AROMATHERAPY
During the Covid-19 period, I began learning about natural perfumery and experimenting with basic fragrance-making practices on my own.
It was an early, personal step toward understanding scent through natural materials.
2022 - INTO NATURAL MATERIALS
I continued developing my earlier explorations while expanding my work into the food flavouring industry.
At the same time, I developed a Vietnamese herbal bathing powder project and began studying scent more seriously through independent exploration of natural fragrance materials.
2023 - A NEW DOOR
A business trip to Hong Kong (Cosmoprof) brought me closer to the fragrance and ingredient industry. It became an important turning point, deepening my curiosity and pushing me further into perfumery.
2024 - INTO THE INDUSTRY
I began working as a marketing consultant for a Vietnamese perfume brand, gaining a closer view of fragrance not only as an art, but also as a product, a market, and a cultural medium. At the same time, I also started trading essential oils and fragrance ingredients at Vontage.Co.
2025 - BECOMING A REAL PERFUMER
I completed my perfumery training at Meta Scent Vietnam and began taking part in fragrance creation on a more serious level. That same year, one of my creations was selected for The Sense of the Local: Collective Scents presented through TCDC Thailand - my first meaningful encounter with an international audience through perfumery.
THANK YOU
Thank you for taking the time to visit my little corner of perfumery.
